Terms of service
What you can expect when you work with Menu Engineering Co., what is expected of you, and how this website may be used. Every engagement also has its own written quote and engagement letter, which carry the specifics.
Who these terms are with
Menu Engineering Co. is the trading name of Ryan Purrington, a sole trader. These terms are between you and Ryan Purrington, trading as Menu Engineering Co., of Suite RA01, 195-197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU. Email: menuengineering@outlook.com.
The services are provided to businesses, not to consumers.
How these terms fit with your quote
Each engagement starts with a written quote and an engagement letter. Those documents set the scope, the fee, the timetable and the notice periods for your engagement. If anything in them differs from this page, the quote and the engagement letter apply.
Scope and deliverables
The four engagements are a menu audit, a menu redesign, new product development and an ongoing retainer. What each one delivers is described on its page and itemised in your quote. Nothing outside the quote is included unless it is agreed in writing first.
The work is done remotely, from the sales data, invoices and specifications you supply. Timetables depend on those arriving complete. If they arrive late, the dates move with them.
What you provide
- Accurate and complete figures: sales mix, invoices and any written specifications.
- Decisions on which recommendations to act on, and the work of acting on them in your kitchens.
- Your own compliance. Menu changes, food safety, allergen information and labelling remain the operator's responsibility. The allergens guide explains the rules, and nothing here replaces advice from your local authority.
Fees and payment
Fees are not published, because they depend on the scope. Each quote states the fee, what it covers, whether VAT applies and when invoices are due. Where an audit fee is credited against a retainer, the quote states the window in which that applies.
Changes, pausing and cancellation
Scope changes are agreed in writing before the work happens. A retainer can be paused or ended on the notice stated in the engagement letter. Cancellation terms for any other engagement are in its quote or engagement letter. Work completed up to the date of cancellation is invoiced.
Results are not guaranteed
The work is designed to move food gross profit, average spend per cover and sales mix. What it is worth depends on your menu, your site and what you implement, so no outcome is guaranteed and none is promised on this website. The figures here are either arithmetic on illustrative examples or results from roles held as an employee, and each is labelled as such.
Your engagement measures a baseline agreed in writing before anything changes, and measures again twelve weeks after launch. If a dish is underperforming against that baseline, the review of why is included and is not charged separately.
Ownership
You own the recipes and specifications, including anything developed for you during the engagement, as stated in the engagement letter. The methods, templates, calculators and general know-how used to produce the work remain with Menu Engineering Co.
Your name, your figures and your results are never published or used as a case study without your written permission.
Confidentiality and your data
Commercial information you supply is used only for your engagement and is not shared with anyone else. A mutual non disclosure agreement can be put in place before any data changes hands. Personal data is handled as set out in the privacy notice.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Subject to that, liability for any engagement is limited to the fees paid for it, and does not extend to loss of profit, loss of revenue or indirect loss. You remain responsible for decisions made in your business.
Using this website
The guides, calculators and examples on this site are general guidance for operators. They are not legal, tax, accounting or professional food safety advice, and the calculators show arithmetic on the figures you enter, not a forecast. Reasonable care is taken to keep them accurate, and if you spot an error, tell me and it will be corrected.

Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email menuengineering@outlook.com. You will have a reply within two working days, and the aim is to put it right.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from an engagement, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
Changes
These terms were last updated 31 October 2026. If they change materially, the date changes with them, and an engagement already agreed continues on the terms it was agreed under.
Questions before you start?
Ask directly. A quote and an engagement letter set out the detail before any work begins.
